Timeline: Rail crashes in the UK The train crash on a level crossing in Berkshire joins a long list of fatal accidents to have blighted the UK's rail network over the past 50 years.

12 October 1952: When two express trains collided at Harrow and Wealdstone, in north west London, and a third train ran into the wreckage, 112 people were killed and 340 hurt.

# The UK's worst train crash was on 22 May 1915 , when a wooden troop train and a passenger train collided at Quintinshill near Gretna Green, killing more than 200 people.
